Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and passionate Sports Journalist to join our dynamic team in the Communication and Media department. As a Sports Journalist, you will be responsible for researching, investigating, and reporting on various sports events, athletes, and related news stories. This role requires exceptional writing skills, a deep understanding of sports, and the ability to deliver accurate, engaging, and timely content to our audience.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough research on sports events, tournaments, athletes, and other related topics.
2. Attend sports events, press conferences, and interviews to gather information and quotes.
3. Write and publish high-quality news articles, features, and editorials on sports-related topics, adhering to strict deadlines.
4. Develop captivating story angles and pitch ideas to the editorial team for approval.
5. Collaborate with photographers, videographers, and graphic designers to enhance news stories with multimedia elements.
6. Fact-check and verify all details and sources used in articles to ensure accuracy and credibility.
7. Stay up-to-date with current sports trends, industry developments, and emerging technologies to provide insightful and relevant content.
8. Build and maintain relationships with sports industry professionals, athletes, coaches, and team managers to gather exclusive information and interviews.
9. Adapt writing style and tone to suit different platforms, including print, online, and social media.
10. Comply with all copyright laws, ethical guidelines, and company policies while reporting and publishing sports-related content.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
2. Proven work experience as a Sports Journalist, preferably with a reputable publication or media organization.
3. Strong knowledge of various sports, including rules, history, and current trends.
4. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen attention to detail.
5. Ability to produce accurate, engaging, and concise content under tight deadlines.
6. Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS) and other digital platforms.
7. Familiarity with AP Style or other recognized style guides.
8. Exceptional research and interview skills, with the ability to gather information from reliable sources.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and industry professionals.
10. A strong ethical approach to journalism, with a commitment to maintaining objectivity and integrity in reporting.
11. Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as sports events often occur outside regular business hours.
